Parade of Lights & Tree Lighting
Celebrate the season at the Annual City of Westerville Tree Lighting! Enjoy dazzling projection displays, festive photo ops, music from a live DJ, and Uptown shops open late—Follow the Parade of Lights traveling south on State St. at 7 PM as it makes its way to City Hall for the official tree lighting.
WQC Clothing + Food Drive
Join Westerville Queer Collective (WQC) on Saturday morning during the Christmas Parade as they host a clothing and canned food drive on our patio! They’ll have hot cocoa and will be collecting the following items:
Warm clothing (Coats, sweatshirts, etc.)
Canned goods
Books for the WQC little free libraries around Westerville
Finacial donations which will go toward filling the WQC’s Food Pantry shelves (as will the quarters from Birdie’s Literary Palm Reader this month!)
Ice Sculpture Tour
Uptown Westerville transforms into a winter wonderland as more than 30 dazzling ice sculptures line the streets of the historic Uptown district. Sip, shop, and dine your way through Uptown while soaking in the sights, sounds, and spirit of the holiday season.
Small Business Saturday
This Small Business Saturday, show some love to the small businesses in uptown Westerville! Stop by Birdie Books and shop local to make a real difference!
Spooky Story Time!
Come out to our Spooky Storytime in your halloween costume! We’ll read some fun halloween themed booooooks, have a tasty treat and do a creepy craft together! Space is limited and fills up fast, RSVP here before it’s too laaaate muahaha!

Potions, Plants & Pages at The Draft Room, Friday, October 17, 2025, 6:30-9pm
Birdie Books is teaming up with some fantastic local businesses to bring you a fun-filled night full of booze, boos, and booooooks!
Come out in your best literary costumes and pick up a spooky (or cozy if that’s more your thing) book and pair it with a special genre-themed Watershed Distillery cocktail! Baker’s Acres will also be there with your next favorite houseplant (sans cobwebs) and maybe a last-minute pumpkin?!
Who will be there?
Costumes are optional, but you get extra raffle tickets, plus it’s fun, so do it!
3 raffle prizes will be given away with items from each participating shop! Raffle tickets are given for each purchase.
Tickets are not needed for entry, just show up! Can’t wait to see you there!

Stop by Birdie Books and write a postcard to an elected official! A Harvard study found that when just 3.5% of a population joins a non-violent action, the movement never fails. In the U.S., that is 12 million postcards to Congress. Bring your ideas and the group will provide the rest! Stamps, postcards, writing materials, list of current issues with optional prompts, along with addresses of local and nationally elected officials will be provided. Make your voice heard on the issues that matter most to you! hosted by Birdie friends Danielle Steele and Jenny Beckwith.
Autumn Equinox Storytime

Fall into a book! Join the Birdie Team this Friday (9/19) for a changing of the seasons inspired Storytime! Monday 9/22 is the autumn equinox so we will be reading a few books bidding summer goodbye and welcoming in fall! There will be a fall related activity to go along with the theme.

Meg Cabot Author Event
This ticketed event is hosted by Westerville Public Library and consists of multiple ways to engage with author Meg Cabot – from 5-6pm, enjoy wine, charcuterie and conversation with the author at Meza Wine Shop ($100, proceeds benefit the Westerville Library Foundation). At 6pm, doors open at the high school, where we’ll be on-hand, selling books. From 7-8pm, enjoy a presentation about Meg Cabot’s life and writing, followed by audience Q&A and book signing. Tickets are $20 ($10 for seniors and students) and can be purchased via the Westerville Public Library.
Back 2 School Carnival
This free celebration takes place in our shared parking lot and will have face paint, fun games, sweet treats, food trucks, and bounce houses – fun for the family!

Learn about creating graphic novels for kids and teens from bestselling author of the Lumberjanes series, Grace Ellis. Q&A and book signing to follow. Books will be available for purchase at the event from Birdie Books!
About the Author
Grace Ellis is a New York Times-bestselling, GLAAD Media Award–winning script writer. Her graphic novels include the much-lauded "Lumberjanes," which has sold 2 million copies worldwide; the long-running "Moonstruck"; and several pieces for DC Comics. Her latest book, "Flung Out of Space: Inspired by the Indecent Adventures of Patricia Highsmith," was a New York Times Notable Book of 2022 and won the 2023 Eisner Award for Best Reality-Based Work. In 2022, Grace was awarded the Ohio Individual Excellence Award in playwriting for "Holding It Together," a site-specific play for high schools.

Meet The Author: NV Gay
Columbus based photographer and author, NV Gay will be speaking at Pride about their newly released book, The Queer Allies Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Being an Empowering LGBTQIA+ Ally. Come be inspired 6:00pm to 6:30pm on Saturday, June 7th, in front of the mural, with a book signing to follow. This informative guide is a must-have for anyone interested in becoming more empowered and educated in their allyship. The Queer Allies Bible is a multi-generational resource designed to educate people to be inclusive, accepting, and affirming LGBTQIA+ allies.

Our favorite day is just around the corner… Independent Bookstore Day, of course! We absolutely adore our bookish community, and this is the day we look forward to all year. A national party when we get to celebrate our collective love of all things book-related with all of you, our favorite people!

How it works:

The Uptown Ice Sculpture Tour
More than 30 ice sculptures will go on display outside historic Uptown buildings beginning Friday evening, Dec. 20 and lasting … until they melt! Visit the annual Uptown Ice Sculpture Tour, presented by the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association. The tour officially opens at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.
Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration
Community members are invited to attend the City's annual Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration. The festivities will include special holiday installations and the Parade of Lights beginning at 6:45 p.m. on State Street between Home and Plum Streets.
