Kinusaiga

Join Westerville’s own Mallory Hill as you create your own fabric artwork, no sewing machine needed! Kinusaiga is a Japanese "no-sew" technique where fabric scraps are tucked into a foam board to create a detailed picture. Your final art will look like you've painted with fabric, all without a sewing machine or needle and thread.

  • Age - 16+

  • Skill Level - Beginner, no previous experience necessary

Get ready for a soccer-filled story time at Birdie Books!

Join us for a FREE Specialty Story Time & Book Launch with local author Carlos Mojica, a Columbus-based writer and frequent collaborator with Major League Soccer. Just days before the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, Carlos is bringing the fun to Birdie with an interactive, family-friendly event perfect for young soccer fans.

This isn’t your average story time, kids and families will enjoy a lively book reading, followed by a fun Q&A with Carlos, a World Cup bracket activity (complete with custom brackets to fill out), and participants will get a branded mini soccer scarf to take home!

Carlos’s featured book will be available for purchase at the event, so you can take home a signed copy!

Carlos speaks both English and Spanish, making it an inclusive and engaging experience for all.

In this class you will cover the basics of cross stitch and how to design your own pattern for a bookshelf. Everyone will work on their pattern and start stitching their shelves, you will have the opportunity to finish the piece at home or come back to Birdie Books to work on it in the café.

Age - 16+

Skill Level - Beginner, no previous experience necessary

Junk Journal Workshop

 
 

Turn everyday “junk” into a one-of-a-kind creative journal at our Junk Journal Workshop! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics of junk journaling while creating layered, personalized pages using found materials, paper scraps, collage elements, and keepsakes.

Your $35 ticket includes a journal to use during the workshop, along with access to a large shared supply table filled with magazines, collage paper, scissors, glue, tape, and other creative materials. No experience is necessary — just bring your creativity and curiosity.

We also encourage everyone to start collecting little bits of “trash” ahead of time to incorporate into your journal. Think receipts, old photos, junk mail, ticket stubs, fabric scraps, wrappers, packaging, handwritten notes, maps, book pages, stickers, postcards, scrap paper and other small treasures that might otherwise be thrown away. The more personal the materials, the more unique your journal will become. No rules, just good vibes and plenty of inspiration.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing creative outlet, a memory-keeping practice, or simply an excuse to make art in community, this workshop is the perfect place to start.

Bookmark Collage with Columbus Collage Collective

Get creative with us at Birdie Books for a hands-on collage workshop in collaboration with the Columbus Collage Collective! Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just looking for a fun, low-pressure way to unwind, this workshop is all about creativity, community, and making something uniquely yours.

Each attendee will create two custom bookmarks, using an eclectic mix of materials sourced from both modern and vintage magazines and books. Play with color, texture, and imagery to design pieces that reflect your personal style or your current reading mood.

We’ll provide everything you need, including protective plastic sleeves to preserve your finished collages and a variety of colorful tassels to add the perfect finishing touch. Once completed, your bookmarks will measure 5.7" x 1.81"—the perfect size to tuck into your current read.

Tickets are $10 per person.

Are you a local poet looking for community? Join local writer, Alisha Skeel, for a peer-review-style workshop where you can nurture your early poems and connect with fellow writers.

During our time together, we’ll get acquainted, talk craft, and share our work for thoughtful feedback. If you’d like to participate, please bring one poem (under two pages, printed if possible) to workshop. Come prepared to both give and receive feedback in a supportive, collaborative environment.

This workshop is open to both new and seasoned poets—no MFA required. Just bring a kind heart and a learner’s mindset.

We are committed to fostering a BIPOC-, LGBTQIA+-, and disability-inclusive space. Hate speech or bullying of any kind—especially targeting marginalized groups—will not be tolerated, either on the page or in person.

Join us at Birdie Books for a special evening of storytelling, wine, and connection featuring the memoir Where Roots Became Wings by author Melanie Hickman.

Born and raised in Ohio, stretched by her years in Hawaii, and rooted now in Rioja Alavesa, Spain, Melanie Hickman is a vigneron, biodynamic farmer, beekeeper, and mother of two. A perpetual dreamer, she tends vineyards, bees, and the land with a regenerative spirit.

This intimate event invites guests into Melanie’s moving true story that begins with a chance meeting in Madrid and unfolds into a journey shaped by love, distance, cultural discovery, and resilience. Join Birdie Books in collaboration with Canvas Blooms Floral Studio for an evening where flowers and storytelling intertwine.

In this thoughtfully curated, hands-on workshop, guests will create a floral arrangement inspired by language, emotion, and imagination. Each participant will choose a word from a collection of literary-inspired prompts—words designed to spark feeling, imagery, and personal meaning.

From there, you’ll select a vessel and begin designing an arrangement that reflects your chosen word (or wherever your creativity leads). Guided by Westerville local and Canvas Bloom Creative Director, Lorry Werner, you’ll learn foam-free floral techniques while exploring how color, texture, and symbolism can bring your vision to life.

Known for their artful, intentional approach to floral design, Canvas Blooms will provide a stunning mix of premium blooms alongside unique seasonal florals in rich, unexpected colors—giving you the tools to create something truly one-of-a-kind.
