As a former English major many moons ago, my reading slump has lasted longer than I’d like to admit. Once I was given the freedom to read whatever I wanted post-grad, I found myself unable to pick up anything. The state of the world (and honestly, my life) pulled me away from books and into the mind-numbing world of television. I wanted to connect with reading again but felt like I’d fallen too far behind, and Vanderpump Rules re-runs could give me what I needed, right?

Luckily, as 2025 was winding down, Birdie Books brought me onto their amazing team, and my girlfriends invited me to join their “Books to Screens” book club. I became immersed in books again, with almost the same giddiness I had as a kid, and I didn’t mind the “assigned” reading anymore. I even set my first Reading Goal in the new year, expecting 1 book a month to be a little out of reach for me, but I found that it didn’t put too much pressure on me to read for the sake of reaching my goal. I’m reading books in a day or two simply because I am so absorbed in the story and can’t sleep until I know what happens next.

I can hardly believe I have already finished seven books (with three on my “currently reading” list!) and the year has just gotten started! That’s the powerful thing about books–they find you exactly when you need to read them, and I’m so thankful they’re taking over my world again.

Here are a few titles I couldn’t put down (so far!) this year:
