Crochet all day!

Zoe’s Pick

When I started learning to crochet last year, A Crochet World of Creepy Creatures and Cryptids by Rikki Gustafson caught my eye right away. The patterns are creepy-cute, unique, and fun! It contains creatures such as the famous Mothman, Loc Nes Monster, zombies, gnomes, and many more.

I opted to do the dragon pattern, which I found easy to follow as a beginner, while also challenging myself to learn some new techniques. This was also the first written pattern that I followed. I’d totally recommend this book if you are looking to try learning from written patterns. Thus, I created Cayenne, the red dragon who lords over my bookshelves!

There is a range of difficulty to these patterns, making it a solid resource for practicing amigurumi, especially for those who are monster and cryptid fans.

Claire’s Pick

I’ve been crocheting consistently for about eight years, and nothing has caught my attention quite like Megan Lapp’s Crochet Snails and Mushroom Sprites. They are incredibly easy to follow (when you understand the foundations and shaping of crochet) and hold my attention throughout the entire project. The first pattern of Lapp’s that I followed was her Mushroom Sprites. You are able to customize them however you like, including the caps, arms, legs, and heads! There are plenty of pictures and detailed step-by-step guides to help you if you get stuck. The creative freedom and versatility in her patterns make this book perfect for seasoned crocheters!

Daniel’s Pick

I definitely put the cart far before the horse, buying The Granny Square Card Deck by Claire Montgomerie long before I learned how to crochet. When I did eventually learn, I got roped into making a baby blanket for a family friend, and this deck was a lifesaver. Montgomerie’s patterns were incredibly easy to pick up, and very adaptable. The only drawback is having to choose which squares to do.
