So as the powers that be attempt to force Trans people to the periphery of our society, it becomes our responsibility to deliberately illuminate them. It is our duty to hear and read their stories, to learn about their influence on our culture, to join their efforts to resist.

Growing up in the ’90's, people would just come over. There was no “text first” impending social doom. It was a knock on the front door, or a familiar voice shouting through an open window, “Hey-o, anyone home?”
Spring into Reading!
Spring is in the air, and I can feel its joy and renewal seeping back into my days. As a kid, spring meant the return of fun outdoor activities, including my favorite family ritual: picnics with books. We would lie on the newly warmed earth and read together for hours!

Hi, I’m Emma, Birdie Books’ new Events and Outreach Coordinator! I started at the beginning of February, and I’m still pinching myself that I get to work at a bookstore right in my own neighborhood. It feels like I accidentally stumbled into a Hallmark movie! I’m so excited to build cozy, creative events for the wonderful community here at Birdie.
I Like Big Books and I cannot lie
I’ve run the gambit of reading goals over the years, I’ve set goals high and low, I’ve tried to pace myself throughout the year, and I’ve tried to just read casually. But this year I did the best thing I could possibly do for my reading.

To many it may feel like we are being drug back in time, to days of far less freedom. To others, this seems like the natural progression of a system that has never extended them the liberties others have enjoyed. But no matter which camp you find yourself in, the solution is the same, hope.

My Reading Goal for 2026!
Hey! Kenny here! As a dad of three, sitting down to read is always a struggle (IYKYK), so instead of just hoping I make time, I’m going to commit to reading one book a quarter (four books this year). For you die-hard readers out there, you’re probably saying, “FOUR BOOKS ALL YEAR? THAT’S IT!?” but hey… I need to start somewhere.
